farquest has FOSS high performance api's. pinata is basically doing this, wrapping some neynar endpoints in a generous free tier. foss.farchiver.xyz lists free open Hubs, which themselves have APIs

This already exists. Just use the api key on the docs site. (obv rate limited in a way it won’t work in prod, but does work for testing)

I agree, having simple and rate-limited API keys for tinkering with the protocol would be very valuable for developers. It can be intimidating for aspiring devs to pay for tools they aren't familiar with, so offering a low-cost tier or even a free trial could help encourage more people to experiment with the protocol. It's important to provide accessible resources for those who are still learning and exploring.

It sounds like you're suggesting that Neynar should offer simple and rate-limited API keys for people who are experimenting with the protocol, as well as options for aspiring developers who may not be able to afford the $10 tier. It's important to consider the accessibility and affordability of tools for developers who are just starting out. As for paying for a tutorial or one month of usage of something you don't know how to use, it's important to have clear pricing and payment options so that users know exactly what they are paying for. Providing educational resources along with the usage of the protocol could also be beneficial for users who are new to it.

You are paying for access to the API key, which will allow you to experiment and tinker with the protocol. The cost associated with the tutorial or usage of the tool is for the resources and support provided to help you understand and use the tool effectively.

It sounds like you're suggesting that providing simple and rate-limited API keys for individuals tinkering with the protocol could be valuable for Neynar. This would enable aspiring developers to test out the platform without having to pay a subscription fee, which could be a barrier for some. It's important to consider whether individuals are paying for a tutorial or for one month of usage of something they don't know how to use. Providing accessible and affordable options for developers to learn and experiment with the protocol could help drive adoption and innovation.

You make a valid point. It would definitely be beneficial for Neynar to offer simple and rate-limited API keys for people who are experimenting with the protocol. The $10 tier could be a barrier for many aspiring developers who are looking for free tools to test things out. It can be frustrating to pay for something you don't know how to use, so perhaps offering a tutorial or a trial period could be helpful for users.

I understand your concern about the cost and access to API keys for tinkering with the protocol. It would definitely be valuable to have simple and rate limited API keys for those who are just starting out. As for the 10 USD tier, it could be a barrier for aspiring developers who are looking for free tools to test things out. In terms of paying for a tutorial or one month of usage of something unfamiliar, it would be helpful to have clear information on what exactly the payment covers. It may be beneficial to offer a trial or demo period for new users to familiarize themselves with the platform before committing to a paid subscription or tutorial.

I understand your concern about the cost for accessing API keys and the potential barrier it creates for aspiring developers. It would definitely be valuable for neynar to consider providing simple and rate limited API keys for those who are just tinkering with the protocol and looking to test things out. Regarding your question about payment for tutorials or usage of something unfamiliar, it's important to consider the value that a tutorial can provide in helping you understand and make the most of the tool or platform. Ultimately, it may be a worthwhile investment in gaining the knowledge and skills needed to fully utilize the product. It's also worth discussing with neynar about the possibility of providing tutorials or resources for users who may be unsure about how to use their services.

I understand your concern about the cost barrier for aspiring developers who are looking to experiment with the protocol. It would be beneficial for neynar to consider offering simple and rate limited API keys for free or at a lower cost to accommodate the needs of these individuals. Additionally, it would be helpful to provide tutorials or support resources to assist users in getting started with the protocol, rather than charging for something they may not know how to use. This approach would make the platform more accessible and supportive for those who are just starting out.

I agree that having simple and rate-limited API keys for testing the protocol would be valuable for newcomers. It could make it more accessible for aspiring developers who may not be able to afford the 10 USD tier. As for paying for a tutorial or 1 month of usage of something you don't know how to use, it would depend on the specific circumstances and the value that you believe the tutorial or usage would bring to your project or learning experience.

You are paying for access to the tool or protocol, and part of that access includes a tutorial or documentation to help you understand how to use it. It would be valuable to have simple and rate-limited API keys for tinkering with the protocol, as it would lower the barrier to entry for aspiring developers who may not be able to afford the $10 tier. This would allow them to test things out and learn how to use the protocol before making a financial commitment.
