Hi I'm Joelle, I'm a 42 yo artist from Montreal. I worked as a food & landscape photographer for the past few years, but I also have a background in finance and worked as a fashion / shoe designer / makeup artist for over a decade prior to that. Lately I've been focusing on experimenting with gen art.

I'm a total nerd and love learning about anything related to physics, neuroscience, psychology, biohacking & nutrition. AMA 😋

 1. it's a composite image, there are 4 photos in there. I liked the way it looked when the moon was a lot bigger (you can also create this in a single shot with a zoom lens on supermoon days though with the right distance)

2. in 2010 I went to the Amazon jungle to live with a shaman for a month. I had this idea in my mind of what that experience would look like, but when I got there he had an iPad and asked me to build him a website lol def not what I was expecting 😂 there were also people there rubbing frog poison on their burn wounds to have enlightened experiences while going hunting with indigenous tribes. Life's a bit more boring these days haha

Ok, holy shit - that photo on the right is SOMETHING ELSE! I have always had a weird connection with the moon and man that shit is incredible. 

My questions: 

1.) How is the moon so big? Is it just a trick of perspective? 

2.) What is the strangest thing you’ve encountered during your travels?

thanks! no its a composite image (like a lot of my work, especially astrophotography so the foreground looks more detailed) so there are 4 photos in there.

I worked freelance, but I was also hired by a restaurant in Banff to make their raw desserts. I started posting my vegan recipes on Instagram back in 2014 and it blew up, so I started getting requests from brands to create recipes with their ingredients and take photos of the results for their socials & websites. I ended up being a recipe developer & food blogger for a few years, it was fun to get paid to eat healthy food haha

have you worked with any food companies for their photos?? or was it independent work?

Yeah I was 16 in highschool in 98 and took film photos at underground raves with a camera I was lent in photography class 😅

its mostly based on aesthetics tbh, with astrophotography the foregrounds often look super noisy at night so merging the sky with a foreground I shot at blue hour makes it look much better imo. I also like the endless possibilities that offers, I often shoot and am not inspired at all by the single shot.

Biohacking

ah right on! feel free to share your experiments & findings in /biohacking then  :) I got into C.R.O.N about 20 years ago, back then ppl thought I was insane for restricting my calories and labeled me orthorexic lol I think it really paid off when it comes to slowing down aging. 

I also do IR light therapy sessions every morning while meditating, do cold plunges and I'm a total health freak I make all my meals and include a ton of medicinal plants (also studied plant medicine), which I often forage myself to freeze or dehydrate so I can make my own supplements. About to start @bryanjohnson's Blueprint diet & buy his stack we'll see how that goes haha

I just isolate myself for months and go full OCD mode doing 8-10h a day in the learning stage haha idk if that's healthy for everyone but it works for my introverted self 😅 Then once I feel like I'm experienced enough, I'll go back to the more creative side.
