I have absolutely no faith in crypto as a force for good. The decentralisation and crypto anarchism ideas that drew me to the space are dead. Crypto capitulated completely to the US government. The grift is everywhere. The extraction has reached new levels. It’s just a centralized, PVP casino.

I’m still on Farcaster - for now - because I like some of the folks here and I genuinely like Farcaster as an app. But crypto is over for me.

I made the mistake of putting my own hopes & ideals onto crypto back in ‘21 and feel like i learned this lesson. It’s decidedly not a force for good. It’s as corrupt and meaningless as tradfi. While some do use it as a force for good, it’s without meaning; as useful for bad as it is good. It’s just a tool.

Yeah, honestly sucks. I still believe the tech itself has potential to do good and have hope that a rebirth is possible, but things aren't lookin great. The culture has completely lost its way.

Don't worry, crypto also exists outside of the US government.

Dumb and greedy money is part of the game. That's why crypto is so powerful. Everytime you try to have an alternative system and make sure you exclude all the reality of the dominant one, then you actually kill your alternative. Making it welcoming for degen usage is a bold move. Short term annoying definitely, but long term if you survive while taking dumbness and greed into account, then you will succeed.

I think you're missing the long game here. the buckminster fuller parallel system. the ultimate extraction from the regime requires regime buyback. the cool thing about "stables" is that the centralised US treasury model is actually the dumbest way to implement it. i'm confident when the liquidity is there, we can transition to CDPs, or something better.

You talk about crypto as if its one big monolith. Thats a pretty inaccurate premise.

Tbh this is how cycles have gone for me in the past. Idealistic gradually moving to disgust I’ve focused on what I actually think can drive good (Bitcoin) and speculate on other assets that have potential. A lot of which are an early skeleton of something that could be useful if…

I know people that created a fully, fully decentralized blockchain... both the team and the people in the community had equal opportunity to mint the tokens, everyone had equal opportunity to code it and get their code integrated, the blockchain itself was easily upgradable... and they've struggled to get anywhere with it because influencers, etc are only interested in working with something they can get in super early on or are given tokens for free.

Crypto’s soul isn’t dead, just buried under speculation and bad actors. Decentralization is a long game, those who stick around and build will define what’s next.
