I'd love to see someone build and scale onchain payments for cannabis businesses on @base. it's unbelievable that we've legalized across the country, but small businesses and consumers are treated horribly by the existing financial system. time to upgrade the system.

Without traditional banks, this is dead in the water. This is effectively an MVP reboot of the Silk Road, and we all know how that turned out. It would be more effective to lobby to change the laws around banks custody of weed profits in dollars vs trying to do it with crypto.

great call! a small niche but would be also great to scale onchain payments onto digital products to remove the need for calculating VATs depending on where you’re shopping online from and get the business from stripe, gumroad and lemonsqueezy

I've talked to several shops myself and asked why they don't accept crypto payments. Usually, the answer is along the lines of "idk, it seems complicated" or "good idea," but they don't act on it. We need something that really gets them to realize the improvements it brings.

unfortunately it's really nearing a 'too late' point, imminent relative collapse of the industry in Canada and similar issues wrt tax burdens on cultivators have impacted the emerald triangle

Challenge is that it’s both capital intensive and difficult to form and keep banking relationships. So even if, say, a cannabis merchant accepted payment onchain, unless the rest of the ecosystem is also onchain, they’ll need to offramp in order to make their next purchase or pay their employees.
