this is a good thread from @bayardo.eth on the current state of @base fees and path forward. he's nuanced and measured, as i'd expect our core protocol leader to be. i want to share a less nuanced perspective: 1. we need to scale the @base EVM >1000x 2. we need to do this with urgency 3. the time to start is right now

what do you think about @vitalik.eth's push for plasma before validiums? maybe the EVM itself is being stretched to usecases that are better served by state channels. as it stands, app developers w/ PMF can just spin up L3s, right?

Parallel seems a necessity in future L2s which donβt have heaps of L3 functionally achieving a similar result. So L3s ? That doesnβt seem so quick at the moment. Tbh a little surprised this is catching folks off guard, world have presumed scenarios were mapped out to suss pain points. Happy success.

Super important conversation! My take: - I am not sure 1000x single-EVM throughput increase is possible without breaking away from L1 EVM equivalence. - alternative would be to double down on the superchain, and possibly have multiple Base EVM instances as threads in there - yes, this is urgent, even beyond cheap blobs

Iβm surprised your goal was only 2x the transactions of the base chain. I always imagined each layer would be an order of magnitude more capacity. Also what do you mean by βscale evm 1000xβ? Thanks @jessepollak !!

L2s shouldn't be concerned about state growth because it's just as safe to snap sync them from the latest finalized block on Ethereum (incl fraud proof window), as it is to sync from scratch.
