Most people only know their age in terms of years. But for the last several years, I have made a point to be aware of my age in days. Your age in years carries societal baggage around what it means to be in your 20s, 30s, etc., but your age in days just is what it is. At 30,000 days old, you’ll be 82, roughly an average life expectancy. I celebrated my 10,000th day a few years ago. More recently, I turned 11,000 days old. I find that being aware of my age in days really helps puts things in perspective. I keep track of my age in days by writing the number in the top right corner of my morning journal. If I go too many days in a row without journaling to simply add the number of days in my head, I’ll just look it up again on a website like daysold.com. If you want to be more aware of your own mortality, and more willfully ignorant of what society says you should be doing at a certain age in life, I would say a healthy awareness of your age in days is good. Let me know if you decide to try it.

love this. somewhat adjacent: I have a similar thought with years. The year 2024 makes anything BC feel unnecessarily distant and disconnected to prior history (at least personally) Let’s say you picked year 0 as the Younger Dryas 12,900 years ago. History *feels* very different: Beginning of agriculture: year ~1,000 Sumerians: year 7,000 Great pyramids: year 8,500 Founding of Rome: year 10,347 Cleopatra: year 10,607 Tang dynasty: 11,506 Columbus discover America: 12,368 Moon landing: 12,845 Etc etc

that’s an interesting approach, don’t you feel “older” seeing that amount of digits?

You're almost close to your 30's I'm approximately 7000 days old, still a bit far from where you are hehe! Also, did you make the calculations based on 366 days a year? And just subtract 11 making it a round figure. Genius!

i love this. at ~31.5 years old, we become a billion seconds old. i used a similar site to figure out the exact time much more interesting and meaningful than counting years. puts things into perspective.

Age in days is more personal and reflective than age in years. It helps put things in perspective and encourages awareness of mortality

I'm in my early 40s so calculating my age in days gets a little scary😂😂 I am always aware that I am at the turnaround point since the average life expectancy of Japanese women is 88 years! I think you are right that calculating age in days is very interesting and in many ways gives us an idea of where we are now.
