interesting content can’t just be short form videos, aesthetic photos, elites dunking on each other, connecting with your IRL friends, or any other market already captured and at scale has to be something you can’t get anywhere else: being early, emerging scenes, groups of geeks largely free of mops and sociopaths

frames led to the biggest surge in interesting content. curious why development went in many other directions instead of doubling down on reducing their limitations

Did they though? I think frames are cool but a lot of the usage was just people trying stuff out cause they were curious and most of it ended up being pretty gimmicky (or at least not sticky) Don’t think they produced interesting content, most of the popular frames now are stats frames for shitcoin tipping

it was something new you couldn’t experience anywhere else, so would consider them interesting content experimentation slowed down over time due to frames limitations, which is why I’m wondering why they chose to work on other features instead of doubling down

I don’t think experimentation slowed down due to frames limitations, it’s because most devs were thinking of them the wrong way (as the whole product vs. a “hook” into a product) You can build some great frames today with the current spec (ofc some features are missing and would be nice to have) but the truth is that most people just don’t have good and sticky ideas

from personal experience I can say some planned features and ux improvements still cannot be added due to frames limitations, which in turn reduce their potential somewhat agree on the product/hook intent behind them, but imo that's a consequence of their limits and not devs creativity

what are the limitations holding you back?

Yes maybe some of your planned features are dwarfed by frame limitations but you’re in the top % of devs on here, most frames are mediocre and more features won’t fix that

I think you overestimate how many good devs and product thinkers there are on here, most of them are short-term thinkers who aren’t focusing on loops, distribution, etc. The good ones have been able to build great experiences despite the constraints of the platform (and have still run into distribution problems), skill issue
