The 7 day challenge period for moving value off strikes me as short-sighted and IMO ultimately self-defeating because it limits interoperability with non-OP chains, which will be necessary for mid to long term success.

Fraud proofs. Optimistic rollups submit transactions to l1 and there is 7 day period to contest before it’s locked in. As opposed to zkrollups who submit the proofs with the transactions so there is no contest period. But optimism doesn’t have this part working yet so it’s just 1 centralized sequencer submitting.

Most user won’t see this, with the proliferation of bridges. But if you want to do it all by code, you have to wait. For now…

I get the reasoning: security + disincentivizing taking value out of the ecosystem. But I (maybe naively) think that any system which erects false barriers is opening the door for more efficient competitors to steal a march on them

https://kelvinfichter.com/pages/thoughts/challenge-periods/ I was introduced to it via the Public Goods Network telegram group where lots of users doing Gitcoin passport challenges are asking why they have to wait 2 weeks and pay $20 to bridge ETH on and off PGN
