I generally think the server will immediately know if the wine is corked as the smell is unmistakeable. 

If you send it back because it's "corked" you likely have no idea what you're talking about and are a jerk (sorry)

i also asked a server this recently lol (she said yes, but that they have rules around price of bottle. like if you taste a $200 bottle and send back, you still need to buy a roughly equally priced bottle)
