right now, the largest accounts—those with 300k+ followers—receive roughly the same amount of likes as accounts with 50k followers; this is a problem if we continue to add bots at current pace, there will be accounts here with 1M+ followers receiving <50 likes per cast if this happens, it will most certainly be the death of the network as a “ghost town” narrative will form & ultimately takeover too many games & protocols have succumbed to the same future not to make this the #1 priority right now so, fuck the dau figures; fuck the vanity following figures; we must kill the bots & cleanse the network imo, this becomes an existential risk if it’s not already

This narrative already exists. I’ve talked to teams building crypto products but not on FC and they said “we tried it for a bit but it’s all bots” Not sure what the solution is tbh

This is facts and already so true Expand the auto follow list dramatically (and programmatically update it) and make more than ~7 basic categories would go along way to at very least distributing the numbers so it's a little less uncanny valley Excited to see @unofficial roll out, the way @christopher broke down their clustering system could be super interesting I also think staggering the auto follow amount in stages based on activity could be interesting Start with X based on categories Recommend buckets of Y based on revealed interests Getting people into their pocket in a multi step process would be a lot more effective - right now its firing blanks

Throwing some data here as food for thoughts: This chart shows the distribution of actions/day (cast, recast, like, reply, follow, delete) 246k users were active last month, and most of them are packed in the left, with less than 15/day. On the right, there's a pack of about 4% spammy accounts with +100/day.

Yup noticed this the other day, even 50k accounts getting less than 100 likes which is terrible engagement.

We must kill all the bots, they are the most disruptive to the experience. They love the tipping narrative the most (or those who use them), yet they gain the least

Why is it a problem for large accounts to get less than 50 likes? That's only a few people. Same as the rest of us if they post interesting things they'll get more likes, just bc they have a lot of followers doesn't mean every post is a banger. It's good if FC shows us more of our friends posts and less big account posts.

A simple fix would just be to cull “spammy” users from the follower number client side, no?
