Removing public likes has: 1) Made me realize I'm a snoop. I found lots of interesting stuff in the likes tab of people I know. Great way to quickly find "more like this" when you discover someone new. Now I bounce and don't engage. 2) Immediately made me more tribalistic. I am much more likely to smash like on pumps and dunks from "my team" since only the author sees my embarrassing behavior. Neither seems good!

I was a huge likes snoop too. But I begrudgingly accept this bc now butt hurt billionaires can’t mass block ppl who like extremely mild dunks on them. Been personally victimized by those lol.

i feel the same on 2 private likes made me hit like on more controversial, trash, tribal content interacting with this content quickly turned my feed giga trashy

I think it’s very hard to judge this product decision without seeing what the next shoe to drop is. I don’t think they shipped this in a vacuum

Very much with you on point 1. They could made *better* use of likes, not zero. For reasons that say more about me than anything, I still don’t believe that likes are public and haven’t liked much more than I would have previously. I’m very aware of the tension, though. I would really like it to not matter.
