I watched Barbie for the first time last night and I don’t know what to think… and I like to think! What were people’s reaction to the movie?

i enjoyed it as a movie; however, all the discourse surrounding it is very unnecessary and takes away the point of making and watching a movie for fun; it has its good, boring and great moments heavy marketing for the movie + all social media hype did set a wrong expectation for the movie

I loved it. Thought the approach was clever and surprised Mattel leaned into the jokes. And this is funny but this part where she’s just so done & lays on the ground — I felt seen lol

Enjoyed it, loved the opening scene, the visuals and playfulness throughout. Not edited well - dragged on and many boring scenes. The obvious feminist jokes played to a feminist audience but wouldn't win any new people over. Did a mother-daughter viewing with my 15 yr old which made it special 💕

I was late to watch it as well, I thought it was a solid movie! It was funnier than I expected, and I imagine it would be even better if I were the target demographic. I thought it was pretty self-aware and also did a good job getting the point across that it was going for.

Was more interested in the death anxiety angle than anything else.

I got the impression that it tried to be good for every social group and ended up being spineless and weak. There are literally no statements in there, though it tries hard to delude as if there are.

Interesting when you get three layers of subtext deep. Think of Gerwig and Bambauch as Barbie and Ken. What people here would call “Straussian.”

It was overrated for sure, boring story. I watch it in 10 minutes using the fast forward button 😂

Laughed a lot. The parts with Will Ferrell crawled a bit, but the rest, I thought, was stellar and the frustration of American society's views and expectations of women expressed in the movie seemed both accurate and to resonate well with all the femme folks I saw it with.
