have you heard of the mammalian dive reflex? it's an activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (slow down breathing, slow down heart rate) in response to mammals being under water for a long time you can also purposefully activate it to help with anxiety or panic attacks! if you feel one coming on, submerge your face in cold water or hold an ice cube to the back of your neck instant calm π

It also triggers in babies when you blow on their faces. They kinda freak out momentarily, which is funny (but maybe a little mean.)

yep confirmed by my therapist!!!! hot/cold or sour tastes didn't know why i liked taking very short hot baths until she mentioned it

This also resets supraventricular tachycardia. Had to do it twice to our newborn by putting a bag of ice on her face. Overwhelms the vagus nerve. Gives it something else to do besides cranking up the bpms β₯οΈ
