What does Farcaster look like in the near term? At some point this summer: 1. Coinbase Wallet will have a Farcaster-powered feed in their mobile app with millions of existing users. This will be the most significant increase to practical decentralization of the protocol since the beginning. 2. Our app will be called Farcaster. Easy to explain to the average person—"download Farcaster in the App Store". 3. Sign ups for most people will be free. Link your X / Twitter account and no payment required. 4. Wallet will be available on web. And thanks to auth addresses, no more "please open your phone to continue using this mini app". 5. Wallet and mini apps will expand their support to multiple chains. If there's an interesting app in crypto, the goal will be to have it play nicely with Farcaster. 6. We're going to continue scaling our weekly reward programs: iterating on casting and building mini apps, but we're also working on a new version of the invite program that rewards referrals AND retention.

There's a lot to like about Ethereum culture. The worst part about Ethereum culture, however, is the invented purity tests. If you don't like something, don't use it. Even better: build an alternative! It's a permissionless, decentralized and open source-friendly ecosystem. You can just fork things! The hard part is getting people to use your version and keep using your thing. So naturally the apps / platforms / chains that have usage and users attract the most armchair opinions. And in an environment where there isn't a massive influx of new people, the finger-pointing and scapegoating only intensifies. The way out is more people with funded wallets transacting regularly onchain who are actually using the apps that people are building.

(Or, in the longer future, maybe startups just stay here forever :)

Introducing Trending Topics Algorithmic collections of casts about topics people are talking about. They update a few times per day. Mobile only to start. Update to the latest version of Warpcast from the your app store and restart your app 1-2x. Topics will appear on the search tab and in your feed while you're scrolling. We’re running this as an experiment in Warpcast for the next couple months. --- > Are these channels? Trending topics **are not** channels. They are collections casts about a popular topic identified by an AI-powered algorithm. Channels have no bearing on trending topics. > Are the topics on the protocol? The casts themselves are on the protocol but the categorization and feeds are generated by Warpcast. There are developer tools like @mbd that can provide this for your app.
