It's incredible how much tiktok is influencing music culture. ex: Increasing average song tempo, shortening song & set lengths. I think one underappreciated thing is it might be making audiences more open minded since they're used to watching whatever the algo serves up.

yes! well said. most exciting to me has been the embracing of "non-traditional (western)" songs by relatively traditional western audiences. lots of south american, african, asian songs getting hugely popular. lots of people stretching themselves. I know for me at least it's opened some doors :)

Before TikTok was Spotify and before the streaming as well the radio have always influenced the song length. Today, the average music quality and creativity continue to going down to follow the mainstream market.

I think they hear music, but they don't listen to music. Subtle, but important.

Yup, audience is now more open-minded thanks to tiktok. GTK that oldie goldies like September (Earth, Wind & Fire) went through a revival thanks to this platform (iirc) Although I'm concerned on how these platforms considerably altered the way we consume music, it's definitely not the way it was even 5 years ago!
