Any critical mass enthusiasts here? Attended this awesome Wild Pearl bicycle party in downtown Singapore on Saturday.

I love cycling. But the critical mass thing is an absolute annoyance.

It’s a forcing function showing the limits of infrastructure. It’s designed to annoy!

Obviously the infrastructure can't handle hundreds of cyclists at the same time. But when is this the reality? I am certain the infrastructure would change, when all these people would actually cycle every day. But they don't. It's just another fun event for them.

β€œThe idea is for people to group together to make it safe for each other to ride bicycles through their streets, based on the old adage: there's safety in numbers.” ^ personally I find it pretty awesome. Rather than being smushed by the side of the road without a bike lane, for a brief moment you get to experience a city with full transportation safety. Understand it can be annoying, and I misspoke when I said that was the point!

Also a clearer statement of the infrastructure chicken and egg question than I made above:

It's not the impression when I observe the critical mass crowd. At least in my city, it has become a party on wheels where people listen to loud music, drink alcohol and try to pick up girls.
