I quit a large audience on Twitter and joined Farcaster a year ago as a direct replacement. I didn't know Varun or Dan, and indeed, anyone else active on Farcaster at the time. While "the list" made sense early on, it should be opt-in recommendations now - the engagement inequality is very real. This is made worse by the hyperfinancialization, where a handful of those people are incentivized to be very active, while a vast majority of the rest are bots. (IMO, as a casual observer nowadays) Farcaster right now should be aggressively focused on social values over financial values (and yes, this is a very direct contradiction and trade-off) - in design, engineering, and most importantly marketing. Unless the terminal addressable market target is degens, which is fair enough.

I aggressively agree with this. Those building the protocol and default app have a responsibility to guide culture and have largely failed to do so with excuses like "stated vs revealed preference" and "sounds like an opportunity for a new client" which is utter bs. Do better.

apps that want to monetize early on need to have a freemium model try it out, and pay if it solves a problem for you e.g. i happily pay monthly for openai, duolingo, and edreams. why? because i use them often, and they solve a problem for me. when that happens, i don’t care about the pricing same can happen in crypto. if it makes your life easier or helps you earn smth in return, payment shouldn’t be a problem. study /supercast on pricing i agree there need to be a fix in our industry if we want to onboard new users. pricing needs to be displayed in stables and let users pay for it with a credit card

i tried the demo and imo it still has a long way to go, now if they in fact release code, model, and paper i believe the community will improve on it and it will be a much better assistant. … some notes: - 1. 7B Multimodal LM - Moshi already runs on apple laptops! (can run on laptop / on consumer GPUs) big w! - local: no data leaving your computer, no internet access. - open source! technical report and open model releases🤞 - latency + - trained by 8+ people in 4 months - used a heavy amount of synthetic data - didn’t get the emotion - missed simple scheduling prompts - no multilingual - needs fine-tuning try demo ↓ https://moshi.chat/?queue_id=talktomoshi

Monthly revenue for /humankind, the good, the bad, and where I need help The good: - Overall baseline of doing "nothing" and making revenue is increasing. Prev dips (Jan and April) I only made about $300-400. This month I made $1000 organically. - Got a new printer to do lower MOQs and increase candle flavour experimenting by printing my own labels. - New wholesale infrastructure: catalogue, ordering form, and connections with new gifting agencies have been set up. - Still revenue positive The bad: - Need to talk to more gifting agencies and saturate my market my local community - No idea what my GTM is from 1-10: lean into crypto corporate gifting for this xmas, start building up local community slowly, or pure B2B. - Concerns that my branding is too "cheap". No actionable yet. Where I need help: - Introduction to crypto cos doing conferences or events where they'll need a lot of candles. Project intros ok too. - Would be happy to chat with any GTM specialists that have scaled $100k+
