Increasingly, I don’t think web3 is the next iteration of the web that will replace web2, but rather a fork that will run in parallel. Not a strong opinion yet but something I can’t shake. Also not sure how I feel about it if true. Thoughts?

Not sure whether I'd call it a fork but agree that won't replace it. I've always seen it as an extension of the web that adds new capabilities. OAuth didn't fully replace email/password and social media didn't fully replace blogs and newsletters.

Yeah, but the “new capabilities” are floating under the surface right now (namely true digital ownership). Farcaster/Lens/etc are great examples with regard to existing social networks. They’re not providing net new capabilities (at least not yet) for the most part, but “forks”.
