Increasingly, I don’t think web3 is the next iteration of the web that will replace web2, but rather a fork that will run in parallel. Not a strong opinion yet but something I can’t shake. Also not sure how I feel about it if true. Thoughts?

Not sure whether I'd call it a fork but agree that won't replace it. I've always seen it as an extension of the web that adds new capabilities. OAuth didn't fully replace email/password and social media didn't fully replace blogs and newsletters.

Yeah, but the “new capabilities” are floating under the surface right now (namely true digital ownership). Farcaster/Lens/etc are great examples with regard to existing social networks. They’re not providing net new capabilities (at least not yet) for the most part, but “forks”.

Ironically this was on Instagram but this is a pretty cool "new capability". I create an NFT on Showtime.xyz, someone collected it and I get notified when they shared it on Instagram. It's simple but something that wasn't possible before without business deals and such. https://i.imgur.com/6anQhzH.jpg

For now. Step 1 of any new tech is to port over old models. Saw it in the 90s with the internet. Seeing it again now.
