sooo the dylan field/figma/zionism drama on the bird app hasn't made it here yet fc designers, how are we feeling about the ceo of figma blocking designers who support palestine or are anti-zionist?

for me, i'm not sure how i feel about a ceo of a company blocking users of their product bc of political/social difs it's not like they're attacking him, he's blocking pro-palestine designers who haven't even interacted with him it seems 🤔

I’m wondering if he used a bulk blocking tool, saw people that got blocked & never interacted with him. Maybe there was a tweet that set him off and blocked all favs. But instead of the push back to Sketch maybe everyone should try https://penpot.app/

Regardless of the actual contention I have to remain intellectually honest and say it’s his platform I don’t take his specific standpoint into consideration Figma isn’t owned by its users If it were a protocol and there was ownership by users it’s a different story

It's pretty deeply unethical to take away access to someone's tools if their politics don't align with yours. I call bullshit on the "intellectual honesty" camp here. What if they chose not to serve Black people, would that still fall under "intellectual honesty?" Like I said, bullshit and unethical

Dude is weird for that. He can do what he wants on his acct; I just take note and move accordingly; Boycotting the usage of Figma seems a bit performative; We can spend more time organizing and helping send aid to the Palestinian people if we want to make a difference.
