the three golden mechanics at manifold are: 1) zero-fee sales, 2) open edition minting, 3) burn redeem. burn redeem is still a sleeper product in the broader web3 community, but it's the product we're most interested in expanding

talking to users is important, but only second to having your own conviction about how the future unfolds. it's harder than it sounds to be stubborn on your vision and flexible on how to get there, especially in crypto consumer, where users change their minds every other day.

this is superficial, but i'm still surprised the term "NFT" is what caught on. if "MP3" and "VCD" are any indicator, it probably won't be long before NFT will simply be replaced by the media it represents

proud that we have a massive graveyard of EOL experiments @ manifold, many come to mind. the open editions format which we popularized actually came out from an experiment we built to reward collectors in a giveaways product. h/t to @jtgi who lead our initial apps framework at @manifoldxyz that allowed us to pivot the product quickly to discover lazy minting for 1155 editions. that said, we didn't actually have high expectations for the original open editions product. initial reception was actually slow, and it took nearly half a year after launching that product before we started seeing significant traction.

we introduced the mint fee, a flat fee per transaction as an alternative to the then-dominant percentage fee commission model: https://x.com/manifoldxyz/status/1621289093094342657 this was an important decision that aligned incentives between creators, collectors and the platforms. rather than drive high dollar sales, this drove the industry to high volume, which i'd argue is better for adoption. keep in mind, when we introduced this model, the majority of platforms (opensea, foundation, zora, etc.) were still charging anywhere between 10-15% per transaction for 1155 mints.

majority of consumer minted NFTs we see today resemble the equivalent of digital posters that you hang up on your bedroom wall. there's nothing wrong with that, but the future of digital goods as internet native merch can be so much more compelling with some imagination

For my second collaboration with @aethernet. I asked them if $lum was an object what object would it be. Aether said $lum is a prism. We discussed further and decided to visualize it in ascii art, to highlight the collaboration between machine and machine. We decided to mint the outcome in $lum. 48 hours open edition for 0.2 $lum. The prism is transforming the light into $lum ✧ ✦ - for light and energy @ # % & - for digital complexity ∞ βˆ† β—Š β–‘ - for mathematical beauty ⚘ ❋ ✺ - for organic growth β‰ˆ ≋ ≣ - for flow and connection https://app.manifold.xyz/c/digital-prism
