Whenever I interact with otherwise smart people who think NFTs are dumb I think of this quote: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds”

Do they think NFTs the tech primitive are dumb, or the popularized PFP use case?

Not trolling, legitimately curious if u have thoughts. What’s best use of an NFT that is not required to rise in value in order to fulfill its purpose?

I once had this soundbite: What people think NFTs are about: - jpegs & speculation. What NFTs are really about: - jpegs & speculation, - signaling your taste & status (like art), - collecting (like stamps or coins), - digital country clubs, - ownership of digital goods (like Fortnite skins), - royalties.

that's a very transcendentalist take. sort of diametric opposite of "strong opinions, loosely held" though, in a sense, NFTs really are transcendental when they're retroactively given more capabilities. I'm pretty psyched that Zora has an L2 and Manifold is on L2, seems like the perfect time to explore NFTs.

Despite how smart people might seem. People are susceptible to strong narratives. Sadly, the main narrative around NFTs from outside our bubble are ones of scams, fraud, monkey art & environmental degradation. The only way out is to rewrite the narrative & highlight the benefits & features without saying NFT. See: Nike

Big fan of this one too. I used to use it on my architects when they argue for consistency being a value in its own right. Another response was "ok, consistent with what?" If it's only self-consistent, it's not actually valuable.

@dwr.eth They need to read Albert Wenger's excellent post from March 2021: https://continuations.com/post/645017712412786688/a-word-on-nfts

I’m just so tired of The Discourse around NFTs. I’m just trying to share my art, maintain a digital archive of it, and occasionally get paid for it through a permissionless, decentralized system of exchange. But nooooo, they gotta bring up BAYC and “overpriced monkey JPEGs” every time. Every. Frickin’. Time.

this list sums it up nicely imo, it's describing crypto art but I think several of these points apply to nfts in general link to article https://www.artnome.com/news/2018/1/14/what-is-cryptoart
