Whenever I interact with otherwise smart people who think NFTs are dumb I think of this quote:

“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds”

I once had this soundbite:

What people think NFTs are about:
- jpegs & speculation.

What NFTs are really about:
- jpegs & speculation,
- signaling your taste & status (like art), 
- collecting (like stamps or coins),
- digital country clubs,
- ownership of digital goods (like Fortnite skins),
- royalties.

That's a good one. It actually goes wayyy beyond that because most of what we own physically is actually an "NFT" (think proof of purchase), so are certificates, fines, diplomas, passports, house deeds, yada yada yada.
