Five years from now, what will be seen as a more impactful launch this year: GPT 4 or Apple headset?

GPT-X is a technology, not a product. Everyone remembers Tesla, not the ML software enabling autopilot. No one outside IT knows what big query (or large distributed systems) is, but everyone knows Google. Masses donโ€™t recognize technologies, they remember products.

Apple Headset. GPT4 is amazing software. But, Apple produces magic at the intersection of hardware & software.

Interesting question. If one way to consider GPT et. al. successful at being a great tool, it may need to become so ubiquitous as to be commoditised; not the regulatory term, the colloquial one). Apple Headset however will likely be a consumer product first. With that said, I think the headset.

Scenario: AI is critical to the success of a wearable, by enabling a natural language interface, and for AR, by enabling generative graphics. Today AI is a fun proof of concept for nerds, but Apple Headset is the device that puts AI into everyday peopleโ€™s lives. GPT & AI are the CPU, but Headset is the Apple II.

There are always exceptions to the rule, but in general, software tends to be more expansive and impactful than hardware. Again, exceptions exist, but the greatest hardware typically struggles to find market fit without solid software to power it.

gpt-4 . I've seen family members (not in tech) make it an indispensable part of their life - they are not going to strap a brick to their face.

llama weight leaks and alpaca leaks cuz u will eventually get gpt4 level performance on ur local device Weight leaks will cause tech companies to be more militant about guarding AI innovations AI innovation will cease to be as open as a tech race to AGI begins Alignment wonโ€™t be solved

If Packy McCormickโ€™s hypothesis is right, and most of it sounds right to me, Open AI as an Apex Aggregator can grow its ecosystem in ways thatโ€™s not possible for Apple. Link to his long post from earlier today. So worth a read. https://www.notboring.co/p/attention-is-all-you-need https://i.imgur.com/V9PNDVj.jpg

that's tough, headset has been a mechanical/balance "marlin". I suppose a spec of the materials would be pretty exciting if it goes beyond metal/acrylic.
