Within a few iterations, it’s clear the Vision Pro will replace movie theaters including IMAX. An infinitely large screen with a perfect projectionist and Spatial Audio vs. getting in your car to sit in a smelly seat with people using their phones.

Probably to some extent but for me going to a cinema is a social event and a fun ritual

What would be cool if it was like a Netflix party kinda thing and you could see ur friends faces/reactions on a side bar in the vision pro. the social part is key to integrate somehow though if it's going to actually replace theaters

The crying babies and people on their phones/answering phone calls is more than enough reason to never go again.

my take: both Vision Pro is great and cinemas are becoming better and better as experience providers so far; they don’t really compete at all imho. aaand last time I’ve seen smelly seats was like 10 years ago 🤷🏼 esp after covid they’re really doubled down on ventilation and cleaning

I think the perfect in between would be a blend between art galleries & immersive experiences. If ever you’re in Montreal, you should check out https://theinfiniteexperience.world/en/about

+1 except maybe the fact that I go to the movies to also “not check phone and be immersed”. If I get notifs all over the place maybe that will break the immersion (or too easy to “give in” to distraction)

I hope Tim Cook personally brings me extra buttered popcorn and a greasy overpriced hotdog with nacho sauce out of a dispenser while I use the vision pro 🙏😔

the headset can get hot + heavy after prolonged usage and sometimes fog up. yours eyes get tired too since you're millimeters from a screen. the form factor will need to be perfect, which i hope they can pull off!

I agree for personal consumption, but I can't even remotely conceive of this replacing dinner and a movie as a date night idea. Maybe this lets movie theaters reposition their offering (we already see a bit of this with some of the higher end offerings) as pure consumption need is met by Vision Pro-like devices

Big unknown for me is how it would feel to wear the thing for hours. Very down to not go to a movie theater again but could imagine it might be pretty uncomfortable

I don’t know about that. Are you gonna go on a date with your highschool sweetheart in Vision Pros in your parents basement? 😄 The theatre is more than its functional part, it’s a place for social gathering like a church

I’m torn on this as someone who loves walking to the theatre in Brooklyn, vibing with folks from our neighborhood, and eating fun themed food. I guess it isn’t the norm because most movie theatres don’t do a luxury experience, but I love the social component of going to the movies. Maybe social vr will solve.
