Has anyone been to either the Azores or the Canary Islands? Worth a dedicated trip?

Imo Madeira > Canary Islands. Great island to visit if you love nature and good food

I've been to the Canary Islands - visually arresting. Sparse, desolate, gorgeous. A rocky desert - an aesthetic I just love. I guess it's essentially a Facaster portal into the Star Wars world of Savareen (Solo) ← which was filmed there, apparently gas to get to actual Savareen was out of budget

Went to the Azores and would recommend - swimming with dolphins in the ocean - beautiful walk on one side of the island around a lake

the only drawback about tenerife was "la calima" sand from the sahara, apple weather told me at the time that breathing is toxic outside lol ... air quality on madeira is superb + so many hiking options!!

Went to the Canary Islands. Pretty nice but I wouldn’t recommend tbh. Very volcanic and full of British tourists

If you’re into vulcans + sea Tenerife & Lanzarote are worth a visit. I’ve never been to the Azores, but I heard it’s less interesting. If you’re going to Spain, the nicest secluded beaches I’ve been to are south of San Jose and it’s close to Granada as well

I enjoy Tenerife! Chill vacation spot and it has a huge volcano in the middle which you can hike which is cool. I'd avoid gran Canaria, too touristy. But generally the canary islands are the go-to place for European vacationers in the winter months, expect lots of tourist and drunk, sun-burnt, soccer-watching brits

I've been to the Azores, beautiful place, can recommend! I think it can get quite rainy though, but we were lucky I was staying in Portugal at the time, it was definitely worth the trip from there - not sure how easy it is to get there from the States

From my understanding it depends on the expectations but I don’t believe so, I think Canary Islands are more for the digital nomad lifestyle.

yes, Azores p epic. Like a lush, slightly cooler Hawaii. Amazing fish, bit of surfing, volcano baths, tea plantations, etc. Also heard good things about Canary.

Azores and Madeira are a great pairing: gorgeous hiking, good food, and easy to get around with a car. Short flight between the two. Went for 10 days (even split) with my wife and in-laws in 2019

would highly recommend madeira island, its inbetween both island groups but much closer to the canaries (check out digital nomads madeira island) they have a great slack group - lived in tenerife for one month, have never seen so many beautiful sunsrises/sets in one month - highly recommend to check out el medano
