Remember when people thought buying Twitter for $44B was overpaying and would certainly lead to financial ruin?

Twitter is worth far less than $44b today https://finance.yahoo.com/news/x-worth-72-less-44-174932002.html Now if you're saying he bought it exclusively to get influence in Trump admin so he can be an oligarch in that admin, then yeah, probably worth it [for him].

if one thinks it helped sway the election, then it was absurdly cheap for Elon it also sounds like the allocations investors got in xAI might make them all whole quite soon

It was an investment in oligarchy, and in that regard it has paid off.

All those people were operating under the assumption that he wouldn't use it to influence an election and secure himself a position of influence in the new administration so he can steer policy to be more favorable to him. Were it not for how the election turned out, the purchase would still be considered a bad investment.

Elon is smart and formidable which means you can member bet against him. But he definitely overpaid a lot for the “business” that was Twitter. He’s gotten the value out of it now, but again not bc of the business of Twitter.
