they're not safe for large cities or rough terrain (basically same issue, just replace discarded heroin needles and broken glass with sharp rocks), but otherwise they are effective

People hate on them, but I'd image they'd feel awesome at the beach or out hiking. Heard about them from Mark Sisson. Only seen them once in the wild about a decade ago.

These are good for helping with proprioception - increased sensory of the type of terrain you are walking on, especially wet. If waterproof. It can protect your feet in places prone to bacteria 🦠 or organisms like sea worms etc. I would recommend for sandy/wet environments just ensure it has grip underneath.
