WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH CHANNELS? 1. Channels aren’t going anywhere anytime soon 2. Our priority is growth; we’re working on a) improving onchain UX with frames + wallet (network differentiation) b) invites + rewards (increase daily actives users) c) protocol improvements to support new clients bringing their own users (increase daily actives users) d) creator onboarding (increase daily active users) 3. Channels, historically, have not driven growth; channels, however, have helped deepen engagement and retention for existing power users. 4. Given limited resources (i.e. focus), we don’t have near term plans to add features to channels. 5. However, nearly all aspects of channels are programmable via a) the protocol b) Warpcast open / free APIs. If there is demand, we may also prioritize making channel registration available API. Note: moving all channels metadata to the protocol is a lot of work that wouldn’t drive near-term growth. 1/2

6. Cura is working a new channel-specific mobile client! Follow @sahil @moe and @cura to keep updated with that project. 7. Should I keep casting in channels? > Only if It makes you happy. The current Home algo shows all of your casts to all of your followers. However, power users may mute channels, so casting in a channel may allow them to unfollow a specific type of content. 8. What’s the point of them then? > We’ve tried a bunch of variations (remember narrowcasting?), but ultimately the current model is the least bad: all casts go to followers (distribution maxxing), most channels allow anyone to cast (but a bunch of high-profile channels that are naturally attractive for spam are membership based). Ultimately, most people use channels for 1) community 2) they like tagging stuff. 9. What’s about requesting to join? > That’s one of two clear features we would add to channels. But frames are a good enough stop gap for now. The other feature would be more control of the channel page algo.

Frames are still too hard for dweebs like me to build any way we can get a click not code basic builder block for frames? Or something SUPER plug and play code where ChatGPT could fill in the blanks for me Then I could recreate my channels as frames - as so could others

Makes perfect sense. One thing: Might you consider tweaking the algorithm to show trending posts from a channel to people who follow that channel but not the poster? If they’re trending, they’re good posts, and this would allow the current channel design to give greater distribution to smaller accounts posting quality content to channels followers.

So casting in a channel is identical to casting in main, except it has a pretty tag and also appears in the channel feed?

Im long a on community first reddit like Farcaster. Reddit As in : - means channels are the raison d etre to come to engage. - Something more intentional (programmable & customizable ) than the speed of TG groups and discord channels
