WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH CHANNELS? 1. Channels aren’t going anywhere anytime soon 2. Our priority is growth; we’re working on a) improving onchain UX with frames + wallet (network differentiation) b) invites + rewards (increase daily actives users) c) protocol improvements to support new clients bringing their own users (increase daily actives users) d) creator onboarding (increase daily active users) 3. Channels, historically, have not driven growth; channels, however, have helped deepen engagement and retention for existing power users. 4. Given limited resources (i.e. focus), we don’t have near term plans to add features to channels. 5. However, nearly all aspects of channels are programmable via a) the protocol b) Warpcast open / free APIs. If there is demand, we may also prioritize making channel registration available API. Note: moving all channels metadata to the protocol is a lot of work that wouldn’t drive near-term growth. 1/2

6. Cura is working a new channel-specific mobile client! Follow @sahil @moe and @cura to keep updated with that project. 7. Should I keep casting in channels? > Only if It makes you happy. The current Home algo shows all of your casts to all of your followers. However, power users may mute channels, so casting in a channel may allow them to unfollow a specific type of content. 8. What’s the point of them then? > We’ve tried a bunch of variations (remember narrowcasting?), but ultimately the current model is the least bad: all casts go to followers (distribution maxxing), most channels allow anyone to cast (but a bunch of high-profile channels that are naturally attractive for spam are membership based). Ultimately, most people use channels for 1) community 2) they like tagging stuff. 9. What’s about requesting to join? > That’s one of two clear features we would add to channels. But frames are a good enough stop gap for now. The other feature would be more control of the channel page algo.

Glad to hear, I love the concept of channels and make use of them a lot. A native way of requesting membership would be awesome.

3 is everything. Without connection and engagement, what are you actually building?

The option of one app combining Twitter and Reddit should not be ignored. There was an experimental client a year or more ago that showed a Reddit view on channels and it was awesome. You might have your all-in-one app sooner than Musk. Let that sink in!

Focusing on growth makes sense, but neglecting channel development might disappoint existing users—unless open APIs truly drive innovation. To attract more users and enhance engagement, a serious commitment to DECENTRALIZATION is essential.

I hope them never disappear, I really value them! I like the ability them has to categorize searches, even if the channel's concept isn't always followed. As an artist, it helps me a lot to find inspiration and discover new accounts here without having to go to another platform. With my team /seekermagazine we also used channels to find new spaces and artists for our project, so personally, I think it's very useful.

It makes sense to focus on growth, but channels are still an important part of the user experience and help with engagement. In the long run, do you have any plans to improve them, or will they always remain a lower priority?
