People don’t want to see uninteresting replies and casts. Best way to solve for that is weight historical inbound engagement for a user, i.e. PageRank-like score for every user. Disproportionally hurts new accounts. Making it harder to get started.

This is fundamentally caused by the lack of negative signal in the Twitter model. Try giving users the equivalent of a downvote button Icon proposal: 🙄

Proposed the downvote button multiple times and people did not like the idea!

what about a "swipe cast away" action that bumps a cast from your feed. doesn't have to be displayed on the cast itself and bonus is that it could be used for personalization e.g. "predict likelihood cast x will be hidden by user y". I think low friction of the action would make people use it and seems high-ish signal

That's why we need extended reactions. Let clients experiment with the optimal set of reactions and users will decide which experience they prefer

Love the Reddit like downvote/upvote system.. except when it’s combined w the twitter like blatant engagement farming..

Downvotes would ruin the positive vibes, truth is the value of a reply is too subjective and people making honest attempts at engagement might be disheartened Allowing users to mark a reply as spam though might work as it should be clearer cut The occasional false negative would be a tolerable price to pay

very dangerous idea. will => mafia formation. real story: "I’m in Sims Mafia and we'll mark you as untrustworthy, turning your hub solid red, and no one will play with you. You have five minutes to comply. look at your hub—three of us have already marked you red. Don’t worry we’ll turn it green when you pay"

The apprehension is understandable. It would put a damper on the positive vibes. It’s one thing to cast something and get no likes. It’s another to get downvoted by a bunch of people who disagree. It’s akin to getting negative feedback with little to no explanation as to why. As if they couldn’t be bothered.
