For registered Democrats: how do you feel about not having a choice in the nominee? Seems odd that there wasn’t at least some attempt at a process and maybe one televised debate?

I think this is a red herring. There was a primary where Joe Biden was effectively the only candidate… how much choice did we have in that? None. Since then Biden underperformed in the debate. The people expressed their desire for him to step aside in poll after poll along with donors and party leaders. Biden eventually realized he is not in the position to continue to seek a new term and steeped aside for the good of the party and the nation. Harris, his VP, democratically elected to step in if needed… is doing just that. She has been endorsed by many democrats throughout the party… our representatives in this representative democracy. Our delegates, regional representatives of the interests of the people, will now do their duty to represent those interests and confirm a nominee at the convention. It’s not how we’ve done it since before the primary era but… it seems clear the will of Democratic voters is well represented here.

People didn't have a choice in Biden this go around either. The primaries were basically cancelled/skipped Also don't forget how they put a thumb on the scale to defeat Bernie at all costs in 2016 and 2020 They've already been undemocratic for 8 years, at least now they made a halfway decent decision removing Joe

Similar to how I feel about power badges, but I suck it up and move on.

It's one of the dumbest strawmans out there. We had no choice beyond Biden. So I didn't even vote in the primary. It woulda been political suicide for a Newsom-type to really try.

Not registered Dem, but have always voted Dem. Not great. Biden or Kamala were not my choices even a year ago, was pulling for a miracle from Dean Philips. But alas. I agree with all of the critiques of the Dem party, basically being an administrative state. But, I still prefer rule of law and believe “burn it all down/bulldoze it” is not the policy I prefer. I’m also an internationalist, and can’t see myself voting for a nationalist/isolationist. Take that as you will.

Would have preferred a mini primary. It’d be cool to have an old school convention, but also extremely risky.

People technically voted for both Biden and Harris as the nominees so, while I was uncomfortable with the cancelled primaries, it’s legitimate.

To me it is only acceptable given that it is Kamala. If you voted for the Biden/Harris ticket then you are voting for the possibility that Harris will be president. I haven't heard one Democrat complain about her being the nominee. I think more people wanted a contested Democratic primary but because of inertia that comes with being an incumbent presidency that didn't happen. This seems like an acceptable outcome given the realization after Biden's debate performance that he doesn't have what it takes for another 4 years. People can united around his replacement quickly rather than having a prolonged fight. Also no credible candidate has stepped up wanting the nomination.

I'm Independent but feels pretty bad. 🙂 At best, it shows really sloppy coordination if you're actually trying to counter a "threat to democracy". At worst, it shows a plan to skip a messy "bernie sanders-like" primary and simply fast forward to another establishment candidate.

I voted for Kamala on the Biden ticket 4 years ago. I don’t know if I will ever get my actual choice of candidate. Doesn’t mean democracy is broken. Just means the I got out voted. Last cycle I voted for Bernie. He would have picked a different VP candidate, which I would have voted for. But I got out voted

This election will come down to one thing. A vote for the DC establishment or a vote against the DC establishment. That’s it.

I feel like people that seem the most upset are trying to make something out of nothing. The choice is always constrained by the people who want to run. Nobody wanted to oppose Biden initially. And now no one wants to oppose Harris. Even then, you always have a choice. It isn’t a cult. If I didn’t like Biden I didn’t have to vote for him. Same with Harris. She has to win everyone’s votes in the end. Some people don’t like her, Biden or the D party and seem to just be looking for reasons to be upset. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Additionally, many would vote for a pair of sweaty gym socks over Trump. If that’s where you’re at, you are less likely to quibble over the shade of their tie or any other minutiae. So why does it bother you?

i’m no dem but i think this line of inquiry isn’t interesting: voting in the primary for Biden was voting in the primary for Harris in the event that he is unable to finish his job. He was clearly unable to finish his job. Ergo…
