Wild analysis from David Shor > 2) TikTok appears to make its users more Republican. > 3) Trump probably narrowly won younger voters. The gender gap among 18 year olds is also the highest ever observed. Trump won *nonwhite* 18-year-old men.

"> 2) TikTok appears to make its users more Republican." That in itself seems like a rather careless attempt to imply causation, although there's indeed some research suggesting the algorithm might favor the right-leaning content.

Charlie Kirk talked about this with Newsom. He basically got assurances from TikTok his content wouldn't be banned anymore and realized just how easy it was for his content to go viral. Steps ahead of his competition.

Wow! And somehow, I included, thought TikTok would be a left creating machine.

#2 is total BS. Responded to him on x. It's correlation, no evidence of causation at all. All that table shows is that younger voters shifted right more than older voters, which was well known since before the election.

i watched the ezra klein episode. many such dems are still in the wrong mindset -> leads to wrong assumptions -> leads to wrong analysis -> leads to loss in 2026. tiktok does not MAKE users more republican. user engage with republican content more, because the content is more appealing the users of the platform. its literally how the algorithm is orchestrated to function. the data is right in front of you, and yet we see shor and others bending backwards to spin up theories based on slim margins.

Listened to him this morning on the Ezra Klein podcast. One takeaway is the dems focused too much on issues that didn’t really matter to folks vs economy etc. Also had an interesting point that folks are drawn toward moderates who engage in “confrontation politics” and a call of sorts for the dems to consider this going forward.

Not surprised at all tbh. There’s a reason he was so aggressive about wanting the US to own TikTok, it clearly had a large impact on his campaign TikTok feeds echo chambers, and some topics polarize into echo chambers faster, which is what some people tend to discuss louder than others, further fuelling the establishment of echo chambers
