We're a democracy, and yet many of the founders' greatest constitutional innovations *restrain* popular will. (Can you name some?) That's why the criticism "that's antidemocratic!"--without more--isn't a very compelling argument. Happy Constitution Day y'all.

Yes! And even after the 17th Amendment mandated direct election of senators, the fact that each state gets two no matter its population is a check on pure democracy (much like the electoral college).
