Last time for a while on PWAs: they don't work for consumer DAU products. They are a fig leaf attempt by Apple to give system-level notifications to websites. Yes, you don't have App Store restrictions, but the revealed preferences of consumers is they don't want the browser lag. No, an "MVP PWA" is not going to tell you much. Consumer DAU products need at least 30 days before you know they are working. Use at your own peril.

If you were a mid size protocol (post pmf, scaling, rev+) launching a consumer ios application, would you totally forgo the PWA and just focus on catering to mobile needs? I understand social vs lending is different, but jw

So, the choice for any consumer crypto app becomes: build a mobile-first web app or a native mobile app. Assuming the obvious caveats for both, which would you start with as a fledgling product?

I think PWAs could be more viable if written with better frameworks or just with Vanilla Javascript Platform matters too, I’ve seen Ionic apps perform pretty well on iOS devices but Android devices seem to perform significantly worse

PWA are better in terms of time to market and are permission-less: If the market like your pwa you can always add an app (if it’s not against the AppStore TOS, which is another bottle neck, especially for crypto apps🥲)

cool i'm of the opposite mindset and think mcdonald's doesn't really require an app to order food so they should probably do the opposite of what you're saying and convert worthless apps like that to PWAs

I can agree but I would also have to disagree. if the goal is to onboard 1 billion users the pwa shouldn't be dismissed IMO! Their benefits in low data usage, no app store dependency, cross-platform compatibility, offline functionality, and lower development costs make them a strong option, especially in developing regions with diverse devices and unstable or limited internet access.
