More. The amount we spend right now is pretty much negligible.

Spend more with the caveat that increased privatization leads to improved capital efficiencies so you get longer mileage for each dollar. Increasingly a greater emphasis on reusability.

As living beings, how much should we spend in evolving beyond the primordial soup?

iirc budget should be ~10x'd counterintuitively, by the time people realize civilization needs to spend on space exploration, there's a good chance that preexisting space exploration will pay the majority of the remaining cost.

I think FC demographic will lean β€œmore”. But as a civilization, I believe it’s probably about ok how much we are spending now. As a top priority, I don’t believe it’s space (even as a mega fan). To the likely follow up, β€œthen what else?”, probably helping humans cope with information abundance (I believe it’s tearing us apart). Probably, towards cheaper / cleaner energy (much is downstream from here).

I think currently there is also a ton of room for increasing capital efficiency. SpaceX has been doing so much more than other established companies and even space agencies with much less.

More is great, but an even greater amount proportionally should be spent on protecting the habitability of the planet we already have. Because right now we are spending effectively zero on that.
