I agree this is a real problem, but flip-flopping from Farcaster to Warpcast back to Farcaster is a tough look. Just spitballing, but maybe just have multiple apps? Launch an 2nd app called Farcaster that is initially just a clone of the Warpcast app that is open-sourced without some proprietary features like the ability to buy Warps. Think of it like Chrome & Chromium. This would also allow Warpcast to evolve into a more professional/paid version like TweetDeck with stuff for pro-users with cast-scheduling, helpdesk/brand management, auto attendant for DMs, keyword search term monitoring, AI copilots etc.

On the flip side, our number one request for the last 6 months has been focusing on user growth.

Hasn't qDAU always been the goal? (emphasis on the q) Becoming the next Clubhouse or Friend.tech would juice user count and then inevitably crash from the sugar high. Airchat might be a better analogy for high-SNR people, same with Substack Notes.

Not noticing qDAU moving, either. BlueSky has no issue with either. Likely have hit the ceiling on crypto natives and the team is moving to find its second audience fast.

Could make Farcaster atproto compatible, and declare Farcaster as the first alternative AppView to BlueSky.

I think🥇has already been claimed. Backwards compatibility may be a bit hard. Even mundane stuff like @-tags could break. https://graysky.app/

There's several clients, but does Graysky host its own AppView?

Perhaps not, but there's enough competition like Northsky working on it, I believe

I think the point is that there's not "enough" competition insofar that no one is running a competing AppView with any number of users yet? I can't find anything about Northsky aside from forum posts, would appreciate links if you have any. The contention is that it costs Bluesky some million+ per month to operate their AppView, it's a very substantial piece of infra that rando competitors can't easily swoop in in a sustainable way. Self-reinforces with the "it shouldn't cost money" culture Bluesky set. I've seen partial attempts at implementing "lite" versions of the AppView but I don't know if they're actually usable yet or the consequences? (I think they still rely on the main AppView to function?)
