We’re considering adding "Block" to Warpcast. Trolly behavior has increased as the network has grown. Some users constantly pile onto people they dislike with quotes and replies. Mute was enough when FC was smaller, but users need better tools. If you're an FC dev, would you want to add block to your app?

Block is difficult to get right in a decentralized way. So the initial version will be a Warpcast level feature. If you block someone: 1. They can't quote cast or reply (using Warpcast) 2. They won't show up in your feed, search or notifications A user's blocklist will be made publicly available over an API so you can integrate it into your applications. If this is something you'd use, please DM me.

I don't like the idea of restricting quote casts. Replies, fine...but blocking procrasting breaks linkability and encourages people to do more screenshotting. It also restricts free speech on the platform: Someone spreading misinformation may block someone who quotetweets to correct the record. Not even Twitter blocks your ability to quotetweet in practice, you can always just copy & paste a link to a tweet even if you're blocked. Also this needs to interface with channels... Some channels may not want the ability to block replies. What if you cast in a channel and block the moderator? I feel the mod should have the ability to set the rules.

> Someone spreading misinformation may block someone who quotetweets to correct the record This is the thing. In my experience there is a *high* correlation between people who block on Twitter to restrict speech/censor opposition. Farcaster should be a bastion of truth seeking and free speech and courage. Blocking is antithetical to that.

Wanted to echo this and point @v to it in hopes they'll consider this during their dev cycle. Highlights: 1) attempts at blocking quote casts will just yield worse versions of quote cats 2) blocks can be used in an attempt to silence valid critiques and conversations... people with large followings can be wrong.
