We’re considering adding "Block" to Warpcast. Trolly behavior has increased as the network has grown. Some users constantly pile onto people they dislike with quotes and replies. Mute was enough when FC was smaller, but users need better tools. If you're an FC dev, would you want to add block to your app?

Block is difficult to get right in a decentralized way. So the initial version will be a Warpcast level feature. If you block someone: 1. They can't quote cast or reply (using Warpcast) 2. They won't show up in your feed, search or notifications A user's blocklist will be made publicly available over an API so you can integrate it into your applications. If this is something you'd use, please DM me.

I'm not a dev but as an artist, I really want the block option! It's not uncommon for artists to have their work stolen by spam accounts and muting doesn't help stop them from seeing the art.

It would be nice to have a page or something that shows everyone we currently have muted (and/or blocked)

YES! We had one bad actor who consistently replied to bounties and harassed users. We removed all of their replies from our site and notified them of a ban many times but since their replies were still seen on Warpcast/other clients still, we had to build "@bountybot" following them around in their bounty replies to notify bounty posters this is a bad actor so please ignore them (didn't stop user from still harassing others) https://warpcast.com/linda/0x45207ba6

yes, would automatically waitlist anyone on your blocklist from an event you're hosting would let you know when someone you've blocked rsvps to an event you're going to would let you block someone from an event's guest list and have that apply across apps

Very skeptical about blocking. Block can also be weaponized by these, let's say, annoying, users: They can block me and write anything they like about me, without me having a way to reply or even see what they write. Block could make more sense at the channel level, an inverse gating: allow all except X.

Yeah, need this! I've already blocked thousands of spammers for my client manually. If Warpcast offers that API, third parties could analyze the data and create a global block list that would benefit all clients.

Are you considering it to be on the protocol level or only on the app level?

I spoke about this really early on but being able to block has a certain positive psychological effect on some who’ve been harassed or stalked. Everyone knows people can make alt accounts to lurk or troll but there is something about blocking that lends a sense of safety.
