What does farcaster think - will apple’s AR/VR headsets be a hit or a flop?

It’s rare For Apple to release something big and not fully commit. I’m so pumped for the education, game, music and e-commerce reality apps.

Depends how good they are 👀 (They’ll incrementally improve them while claiming each successive one to be the best ever made 🤭) Wait for the 10th one

prediction: they’ll announce it this year, but not release it until next year (a la tesla). and when it comes out, it will be expensive but very much worth it.

It will be a hit with enthusiasts. A new kind of since gaming isn‘t a thing on Apple. And the most active users are still gamers. But it could be an Apple moment where they change the meta.

It will probably be more directed at devs and enthusiasts (especially regarding pricing). I think the mass market version will be the second or third gen when more apps have been developed, the usecases have been defined, and the production cost can be lowered.

I just can't imagine how it is physically possible to create so compact optical system for headset. Anyway, if it's true, it'll be a huge boost for all the VR community

I think that it's going to do well primarily because it's apple but also because the time seems right to introduce VR tech. If the headset is anywhere nearly as thin as shown in the concept image then it completely justifies the price tag and should do very well.

I'm very excited to have everyone not pay attention even more when they are walking, driving, and operating heavy machinery pretty much everything. Hot take: I'm looking forward to the mass rollout of self-driving cars so I can stop worrying about the possibility of my kids getting run over by idiots.

Too early. Its hardware looks pretty but can it really perform - time, experiences, immersion? Also content - if most folks are wisened up to to thr 30% walled garden fee, do u want to create content for an untested hardware and port over existing? My gut says rocky road ahead

I’m a fan of the battery not being adjacent to my head 👍 Price tag is steep though.

I think the first few generations will be mostly aimed at developers, and it’ll be a novelty product til it isn’t. I think the gaming use-case is a good one, but not enough to drive large scale adoption — the productivity story will be an important one (e.g. can the headset replace multiple monitors?)

A flop Imho metaverse as a concept is 💯 scam. All these VR glasses will never gain mainstream adoption.
