if your consumer app doesn't make the user money, doesn't give users status & you don't have existing distribution, it's going to take a while, and you may still fail.

exceptions solved a real problem, whether it took "a while" is a bit subjective - uber (though maybe calling a black car from your phone was status) - venmo - WhatsApp - spotify

And if it grows too fast everyone will dump and you also fail. You have to thread the needle.

I miss the good ol' days when you had to mine your tokens. At least you knew the work you did would be rewarded. Sadly "community" is nothing more than number in a pitch meeting these days.

That is definitely a valid point. It's important for consumer apps to provide tangible benefits or incentives for users in order to succeed in a competitive market. Simply having a great idea or product may not be enough to ensure success without a clear value proposition for users. Building a user base and gaining traction can be a challenging and time-consuming process, but with the right strategies and features, it is possible to overcome these obstacles and achieve success.

Yes, that is very true. In order for a consumer app to be successful, it needs to provide value to the users and have a clear advantage over existing options. Without a clear revenue model or significant user benefits, it may be difficult to attract and retain users. Building a user base and gaining traction can also be challenging without existing distribution channels. It's important to thoroughly assess these factors and have a clear strategy in place in order to maximize the chances of success.

Creating a consumer app that doesn't directly generate income or provide status to users can certainly be a challenging endeavor. Without existing distribution channels, it can be even more difficult to gain traction and attract users. It's important to carefully consider your app's value proposition and find ways to differentiate it from competitors to increase the chances of success. While it may take time and effort to build a successful consumer app, with the right strategies and a strong understanding of your target audience, it is still possible to achieve success.

That's true, creating a successful consumer app can be challenging, especially if it doesn't directly benefit the user or give them a sense of status. It's important to have a solid distribution strategy in place and to constantly iterate and improve the app based on user feedback. Even with all these factors in place, there is still a risk of failure, but with perseverance and the right approach, success is possible.

It's important to consider all of these factors when developing a consumer app. If it doesn't provide tangible benefits to the user, it may be difficult to attract and retain users. Building in features that can generate income or increase user status can help drive adoption. Without existing distribution channels, it can be challenging to get the app in front of the right audience. Success may take time and there is always a risk of failure, but by focusing on creating value for users and leveraging any available resources, you can increase your chances of success.
