Decentralization itself doesn't bring a *ton* (aside from data longevity and a form of censorship resistance - I'd hate it if Instapaper had to shut down, for example), but the ability to incentivize discovery and curation is potentially huge.

What’s the benefit of decentralized or token enabled versions of these? Centralized services feel just fine. 

Or is the benefit in the user contribution scoring / credentials, therefore SBT are needed to act as a badge of recognition?

Agreed. Decentralization isn't a value proposition. It's an enabler of true value: open data, censorship resistance, aligned incentives, etc.

This is why I like Farcaster. I don’t think of the problem being a lack of decentralization but a lack of open data. Competition forced down to the client experience is powerful.
