I've seen mixed reactions to Zora combining pictures and tokens. I could be wrong but this feels ... right. It's fascinating. Its like fractionalizing NFTs without having to fractionalize a thing. You can own a lot or you can own a little. You can flex being the biggest holder, or you can just support your favorite artist with $5. The only thing that separates this from existing 1/1s or open editions is how platforms display them. By owning any amount of these tokens you own "the picture". The amount you put in is up to you. I get the sense artists hate this because it further pushes art into some kind of financial asset, but this is fascinating and I hope more artists use it and it catches on. NFTs were always financial. Artists wanted a new way to monetize their work. They required a mental leap to embrace a new concept of ownership. Seems like that is also the case here. This solves the royalty debate. I assume the artist earns fees on every swap.

"you can just support your favorite artist with $5" sort of right? don't those $5 go to the LP? Artist gets 0.05 After price discovery the artist would need to "sell" the art by selling some or all of their 10M allocation to realize the price. the greater market would need to accept creators (that includes devs) capturing value by selling some of their supply *whenever they want*. If the market doesn't accept that and the pressure is on the creator to hold forever then I don't see how this is necessarily better for artists because they're not really selling their art directly.

main 'problem' i see is that fractions are basically infinite so you can still own the picture even if you buy .00000000000001 of the coin.

Much of this is true but so many other things to take into consideration. Artists mostly are not about seeing that chart on a dex screener. Messes with the mind Also it’s so hard for crypto curious web2 artists to take the leap. Web2 communities revolt. Its a risk. This method isn’t particularly appealing. It’s confusing and probably a little suspicious to them Happy to be wrong but I don’t think I am. I don’t understand why both ways can’t coexist

while i don’t disagree, i personally prefer digital scarcity when it comes to art collecting. lean toward limited editions and 1/1s. or generative work, where although it’s a part of a collection, your piece is still unique. so the only incentive left for me to “collect” on zora is trading the coins. and i’m not sure i need yet another way to flip tokens.

small minded opinion maybe but if you dont want art to be a financial asset, dont make an nft/crypto adjacent piece of art.

ERC 404 at least gave you a hint about price. Art run was good imo. Cause you can Hold it as NFT too. This is just a pump fun token or clanker token no diff. Can you tell me What is fascinating cuz hard to understand it by me. What is the diff one artist Launch clanker with his/her art vs launch a token on zora? Looks like it is just aiming bring more people to base. (Most of them will stay away after it) Cause zora has many followers. That is it imo.

Just as a point of clarity, if someone “buys” and NFT for 10 USD, then artist gets 10 USD. How much does artist make if someone buys 10 USD of tokens?

As one of the features, yes, completely switch to this model - no, they will ruin the project.

I’m onboard, though from one perspective it would be cool if the coin was account based, so you invest in the artist. Then again each new post allows you to get in early and potentially profit from scarcity

zora's approach is lazy consensus for digital art – artists deploy the contract and let the mempool handle price discovery. royalty streams compile without merge conflicts now

i kinda agree, it is definitely an interesting development and it provides a lot of opportunities for sustainability, especially if its integrated with defi. one part that people don't really catch is that it can also serve as an oracle for popularity of certain art/creation over time, this mechanism can be used for creating feeds ...etc. in a more crypto native way. if such thing happens, it also somewhat distrupts the ads business cuz creator can just buy and pump his own post so it is ranked higher on the feed/leaderboard. and as people opt in, slowly cashes out getting his "ad" money back while reaching more people. or the price action can sort of measure the popularity of a meme/art/article/song ...etc. over time because degens will speculate... there is definitely room for FAFO and innovation there. very interested to see how it works out. already started playing around.

This is an interesting take. Zora’s approach does feel like a natural evolution of NFT ownership—kind of like an organic blend of open editions, 1/1s, and fractionalized ownership without actually fractionalizing anything. It’s democratizing access while still allowing for hierarchy among collectors.
