it's incredible-& scary-that Tron now rivals Ethereum on usage. a lot of that is organic, consumer use from people using stablecoins to escape inflation. easy to take it for granted here in the US, but everywhere else, people love USD

i was in Turkey two weeks ago. Istanbul is full of shops that will take your Lira (inflation this year: 58%) and send you USDT on Tron

The “transactional money” use case blows every other out of the water volume-wise. Billions of humans either unbanked or subject to unreliable, hyperinflationary fiat. They need simple & immediate solutions for day to day tx and stUSDT/USDT “just works”. But does Ethereum even try to compete with this use case?

imo this is a reason why we shouldn't hold up stablecoins as some amazing crypto achievement the most popular ones are centralized regulatory arbitrage schemes, they have nothing to do with the core decentralization values

Tron is basically the only stablecoin used / accepted in LatAm. The user network effects they have in developing countries is similar to the developer network effects Ethereum has for the EVM. Yet people ignore it because “it’s Justin Sun’s scam chain”

Tbh it’s fact (Tron usage) for quiet a while and I’m surprised that it took so many years for westerners to understand how little they understand the crypto market and global growth. Even for tools like Nansen they still waited until recently to integrate tron-usdt data.

Not scary, exciting. But L2s are cheaper, more secure and less captured by a single market player - how do we help them compete?

I just heard McCormack’s guest say as much. Pretty blown away but like you said, whatever is easiest to escape inflation.

I think the "people in the developing world using USDT" narrative is a psyop to obfuscate a massive exit scam See this thread for more details: https://twitter.com/DylanLeClair_/status/1709712236569133468
