Anyone else experience that 1Password passkeys never seem to work? Getting shoved into tying your crypto to your mobile OS for backup feels like an enshittifying lock-in accelerant.

I had a rough time early on - but just of late I've been surprised about how well 1Password with passkeys has been working surprisingly well. As in, enough to mentally notice, "oh he, that 'just worked" ... when it had been pretty crappy and failure experience. (Mac, iPhone hardward)

Sometimes do and sometimes don’t. And I never know who to blame.

yes, this is why I’m not a passkey believer (yet?!) from seeing devs implement passkeys into apps and websites: everyone picks the fastest way to make it work…and then it only works for OS-based passkeys.

Curious if you disagree that the majority of users (especially less crypto-native) will end up using their OS for passkey backup? It seems to be the least confusing/no setup path as most non-security minded people don't care to setup a 3rd party password manager.

No, but i mostly use them on desktop. I have noticed some interesting liberties that some platforms (PayPal) take with how they are using passkeys. it's antagonistic software design.

I setup a 1P specifically for that reason, I hate the idea of tying my passphrases to my google account. But it has worked flawlessly for me on Android and Brave extension
