what is the consensus on screen time for babies? not relevant for my 2 week old right now, but i am trying to learn what should we do as he gets older. is there research/material that goes deeper into this? also appreciate any personal experiences you can share on what worked and what did not...etc.

we did zero screen time until they were 3? or 4. when my daughter was 6 months old, she saw a TV that happened to be on and the trance it put her in immediately creeped me out. we had planned to keep her away from screens but that definitely reinforced it.

all my kids got screentime as young as 1. All of them are perfectly fine. Like everything in life balance is important, but if I'm trying to sit down with the family at a cracker barrel and wanna enjoy my meal/ make sure im connecting with my wife? Those kiddos are gettin a screen to keep em quiet

The U.S. pediatric guidelines say no screens before 2 yo. We did this with our first, our second got some screens incidentally through the older kiddo but very minimal. They’ll have plenty of time to get them when they’re older. We also held off on cell phones until 13 and we are glad we did.

Mila is 3 yo and we have never showed her a cartoon on the tv or the phone. I get why people do it (finally you can breathe), but it has been important for us. and for her. will come back to this to share with more depth

No screen before 3, that’s the consensus recommendation from pediatricians in EU

As little as possible as long as possible. Did it too early and it showed. Content wasn't appropriate either, too many fast pictures the small kid couldn't even process. If you must, show very very slow storytelling that they can actually follow. We did a lot of audiobooks and kids podcasts and that was a good compromise and I still think it is great for him.
