Whatโ€™s a web3 sector that took too long or hasnโ€™t lived up to the hype? Enough so that you got disillusioned and moved on? For me itโ€™s tokenized real world assets. For others, itโ€™s self sovereign identity, DAO coordination, merchant payments, governance, scalability, etc

Creators' fungible tokens - DeSo etc. IMO NFTs are the way.

Prediction markets. Augur blew my mind when I first learned about it but it (and the whole sector) kind of hasnโ€™t gone anywhere :(

I also used to think that on-chain asset management platforms like https://enzyme.finance would gain traction and keep it. Enzyme has been around since 2016-2017 but AUM on Ethereum + Polygon is still small right now.

I still think synthetic assets will be big but the industry has a bad reputation when it comes to security and itโ€™s clear that we canโ€™t trust centralized exchanges. So maybe once defi has stood the test of time this will materialize but thereโ€™s also a lot of red tape to get through.

It's interesting because MakerDAO made big recent plays on RWAs. Do you think it's simply the products so far haven't been scalable/consumer focused?

it's premature but digitally productive ecovillages (like on-premise enclaves for cloud-based SaaS). seems like the process of acquisition/ management structure has consumed all available bandwidth & more novel features like tracking IRL contributions or securing depot goods/equipment still require MVP.

My primary conclusion from the web3 world is that protocols are nice, but products require a laser focused company behind them. Not enough people building on top of existing protocols
