I tried the “closing shift” ADHD hack to get 20-30 minutes of cleaning done at night without getting carried away. I figured I needed a good playlist for it. Two hours later I have a SICK playlist and a sink full of dishes.

well, since i’ve learned how to do the dishes with a single hand – so i can scroll wc with the other – my sink is always full of dishes 😭

Honestly I learned about it on TikTok. The idea is to make a checklist of small, easy cleaning tasks you do every night. My favorite variation is make a list and then make a small number than the items that you have on that list the minimum. So like, you might have nine tasks but you say doing three is the goal. Right now mine is:

-Put my daughters toys away as well as anything the belongs in our bedroom or office. 
-Put away food or non dish stuff in kitchen.
(If needed unload and) load the dishwasher then wipe down kitchen counters.
-Program the coffee maker for the next morning. 
-Spot sweep and spot mop (dogs) kitchen and living room.
-Take out the trash. 
-Lock up, turn off lights, and turn on security system.

For me it’s like if I have the willpower for the dishes everything else follows. But I never want to do the dishes. So I make the picking up step first and it’s easier and my momentum rolls into the dishes. It’s the “closing shift” for the house.
