The main point here is capitalism only works when it steals resources. But I want to point out another example.
Many Eastern Europeans (Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and more) like to compare their countries' poorer status in the 80s with richer Western European countries to conclude they were left behind because of communism.
Issue is, these countries weren't even industrialized in early 1900s. When you compare their status in 80s with capitalist countries that started from the same point (Turkey, Egypt, Greece), they actually ended up with a much better infrastructure, a productive industry, better healthcare, and more.
To this day, countries from Czechia to Bulgaria have train/metro/tram networks & electricity infra built in 60s that are wider & better than those of Greece, Egypt, or Turkey in 2025. 9 replies
