Charlie Kauffman writes metafiction better than anyone i have ever read. It's a style i love to write and admire what has essentially been a constant boundary pushing output by him. I'm thinking of ending things and synecdoche new york are both absolute masterpieces. In fiction I admire Cormac McCarthy for his ability to make the brutal poetic, Ian McEwan for his grace in both sentence and plot construction, and Nabokov who could write twenty chapters about paint drying and still make it interesting. There are many more I'm sure I've forgotten.

There have been many writers who have inspired me throughout my life, but I’ll focus on contemporary ones. I really like Jonathan Safran Foer. The way he mixes images and text in a narrative form works very well. I also appreciate the many layers each of his stories has. The poetry of Ocean Vuong deeply touches me. Miranda July also does a wonderful job of combining her artistic practice with writing.

David Sedaris. I wouldn’t call him one of my favorite writers but I so greatly appreciate the authenticity, self-reflection, entertainment, and humor he brings to his work. I want to write like that insofar as the ability to have my voice and lived experience jump off the page. Also Mitch Hedberg. Dude wrote jokes like no other comedian.

i am such a literary fiction fan and two authors that stand out to me are donna tartt and gabrielle zevin. they’re masterful character builders and i firmly believe well-written characters can save a bad plot or elevate a good one to planes never seen before. their characters are so complex and so engaging.

I wish I could write like Bulgakov , able to create so many pictures with words but being so brave and goliardic at the same time
